Tata Sky Discount on Year-Long Subscription to Sports Channels and WhatsApps latest Android beta gets Dark Mode

Tata Sky is offering a-la-carte sports channel option to its subscriber to avail a small discount on an annual subscription. WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world right now, but it still lacks some useful features that are present on competing apps like Telegram - one of them being Dark Mode. WhatsApp is working on Dark Mode since last September. We even got a glimpse of what the Dark Mode would look like on WhatsApp for iOS. And now, we are happy to report that the company has started testing this much-requested feature on its Android app as well.

1. Tata Sky Providing Discount on Year-Long Subscription to Sports Channels

. Tata Sky is offering Star Sports 1 in Hindi and English for an entire year under this pack

. The DTH operator is also shipping other free sports channels this cricket season

The advent of the cricket season has urged the DTH companies to get on their toes and launch offers which would increase the viewership of channels and give them more reach. Last we heard about a few offers from Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV and D2h. However, there is yet one more offer from Tata Sky related to sports channel which has been hiding under the rock and could easily be missed by the consumers. This offer is an annual sports channel offer from the DTH operator for sports fans who would not just like to watch the Indian Premier League while the cricket season lasts, but also catch the rest of the matches all year long. Here are the details of the a-la-carte sports pack launched by Tata Sky.

2. Xiaomi Mi 9X specs leaked, supposedly coming in April

Last week we came across an XDA report, which revealed three new Xiaomi device codenamed “pyxis”, “bamboo_sprout”, and “cosmos_sprout”. All three feature in-display fingerprint sensors, with the latter two run on Android One, leading us to believe they will eventually go official as Mi A3 and Mi A3 lite. The “pyxis” should be the next Xioami X phone - a toned down version of the flagship following in the footsteps of the Mi 6X. And today we got to learn the specs of that alleged Mi 9X.

According to the leak, the Mi 9X will feature a waterdrop notch 6.4" FHD AMOLED display with a 32MP selfie cam and in-display fingerprint sensor. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 675 just as the Redmi Note 7 Pro, in this case paired with 6 GB RAM and 64GB storage.

The phone will have a triple camera setup on its back with 48MP (main), 13MP (wide), and 8MP (likely telephoto) sensors. Software-wise it will be running MIUI 10 on top of Android 9 Pie. The battery will have 3,300 mAh capacity and support 18W fast charging.

We can expect the Mi A3 to feature similar specs as the Mi 9X, while the Mi A3 lite will probably lower the screen resolution and opt for a lesser chipset. Mi 9X pricing is expected to start at 1699 yuan ($250/€220) and should release sometime in April.

3. WhatsApps latest Android beta gets Dark Mode

WhatsApp has begun testing Dark Mode on its beta app for Android bearing version 2.19.82. However, as this feature is still under development, it's not yet available for everyone. But thanks to the screenshots posted by WABetaInfo, we get to see how the Android app would look like with Dark Mode turned on.

Unfortunately, we don't get to see what the chat screens will look like, and the reason for that is WhatsApp has only implemented Dark Mode in the Settings page so far. We hope WhatsApp will have implemented Dark Mode across the entire Android app by the time it's released.

Furthermore, the Dark Mode for Android app is also a bit different than its iOS counterpart which is pitch black making it OLED friendly. Android, on the other hand, gets a dark grey color which could make it less useful on smartphones with OLED panels.

4. Samsung to miss market expectations in Q1 2019

As the first quarter of 2019 draws to an end Samsung delivered a warning to investors about lower-than-expected demand for chip sales and display panels. The component market is in a steady decline and Korean sources claim that instead of the earlier estimated KRW7.981 trillion, profit will be under KRW7 trillion, which is half the KRW15.6 trillion profit from twelve months ago.

The display and chip market accounts for over 3/4 of the total revenue for Samsung Electronics. Competitors are providing better prices for LTPS LCDs, pushing manufacturers to ditch the OLED solution. The memory market that sent profits skyrocketing in the past two years might be performing poorly, but insiders expect the demand to recover in the second half of 2019.

The poor performance of Samsung Electronics is also hurting the South Korean economy. Export is on a downward trend due to the sluggish semiconductor demand, therefore partners are kept on their toes and investments are lowered as an answer. Official guidance is usually issued in the first week following the quarter, while the detailed results are posted in the last Friday of the month, following the three-month period.
