Here what to do if you lose your Aadhaar card

Aadhaar card is one of most widely accepted identity proof in India and sometimes we lose it or misplace it and the only option left is to use the re-printed version of the card after downloading it for UIDAI website. Recently, UIDAI has launched a new service that allows users to get their lost or misplace Aadhaar card reprinted after paying a nominal amount of Rs 50. This reprinting fee includes GST and speed post charges as well. The reprinted Aadhaar card will be delivered to the speed post within five working days and will get delivered to the registered address.

So, if you are also looking to get your lost Aadhaar card reprinted, here's our step-by-step guide.

First things first: You must know either your Aadhaar card number or Virtual Identification Number(VID) to raise the reprinting request. Also, you should have your phone number linked with your Aadhaar card to receive the OTP for verification purpose.

However, there's also a way to get Aadhaar reprinted with a non-registered phone number without being able to preview the details.

Steps to follow:

1. Open 'www.uidai.gov.in' on your PC browser

2. Head to the 'Aadhar service' section and select 'Order Aadhaar Reprint (Pilot basis) option

3. It will open a new tab on your browser, enter 12-digit Aadhaar number or 16-digit-Virtual Identification Number and security code (captcha) in the dialogue box.

4. If you already have your mobile number registered, then click 'Send OTP' button. In case you have not registered your phone number, then tick the checkbox saying ' If you do not register your mobile number' and proceed.

5. Enter the OTP received on your phone

6. Check the details in the preview and if all the details are correct, click on 'Make Payment' option

7. Make the payment using any mode of payment.

8. Once done, you'll see a confirmation message on your screen and you'll also receive a message on your phone containing SRN number for future reference.

Note: In case you have not registered your phone number, hit the checkbox mentioned in Step 4 and enter the mobile number to receive OTP.
