Xiaomi Redmi 5A

Even though many mid-range/budget smartphones come with high-end features, who says entry-level handsets are not selling? Xiaomi's recently launched entry-level smartphone, Redmi 5A has sold over 1 million handsets in less than a month. Or at least that's what company's India head Manu Kumar Jain is claiming when he thanked Mi fans via Twitter.

The Tweet says, "Thrilled to announce that we've sold 1+ Mn #Redmi5A in less than a month! Thank you, Mi Fans for showering us with your incredible love & support! RT and 5 lucky winners will win Mi Band HRX  #DeshKaSmartphone @RedmiIndia @XiaomiIndia" The Redmi 5A was launched in India back in November and was touted as the Desh ka smartphone.

The same handset was launched in the company's home country China a month before that and largely shares all the specs. However, the India variant of the handset has some additional customizations such as a dedicated microSD card slot and 'Dual Graphite Sheet' coating at the back that keeps the temperature of the handset cooler by up to 1 degree more. To remind the readers, the Redmi 5A comes in two variants based on RAM and storage capacities.

The 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model costs Rs 5,999, while the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version is priced at Rs 6,999. Backed by a 3000mAh battery, the smartphone has a claimed 8-day long battery life. Sporting a 5-inch HD display of 720x1280 pixels resolution, it runs MIUI 9-based on Android Nougat and is available in three colour variants -- Platinum Silver Gray, Cherry Powder and Champagne Gold. Powering the Xiaomi Redmi 5A is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor.

It houses a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture along with a 5MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. In terms of connectivity, the Redmi 5A offers 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, Infrared, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a micro-USB port.
